THE TRUTH OR SOMETHING LIKE IT: MEMOIR
Ages 16-29
Summer 2022, Online

In this online workshop, fellows will create art based on memories, recalling and reflecting through a range of mediums and forms, including poetry, prose, and still and moving images.  They’ll work with recollections both distinct and hazy; bound to objects, locations, or even flavors and smells.  They might locate narratives, moments of recognition, or simply sensations.  And they’ll implicitly explore their relationship to these fragments of experience, trying not so much to explain or rationalize, as to simply reclaim through a creative process, allowing time, perspective, and imagination to shape the material.  They’ll read sample short memoir, and view film clips and photographs, expanding their understanding of what memoir is and can do.  Selections from their work will be shown at a public exhibition, and complete portfolios will be shared on the program website.  Limited to 8 student fellows.
