A DIFFERENT SIDE OF BALTIMORE
Ages 16-23
Spring 2021, Online

In this videography workshop student fellows will explore the people, places, food, music, art, and spirit of a Baltimore—or many Baltimores—not everyone knows or sees.  Fellows will work independently in the field during workshop meeting hours, with brief, virtual check-ins by text or video chat.  Even as they observe social distancing protocols, they’ll get out on the streets, in the parks, or into whatever settings they choose, capturing their own sounds and images, and their own interviews.  They’ll then periodically come together as a group in virtual meetings to share their material and work through possibilities for one or more collaborative films.  The emphasis for each fellow will be the side of the city they believe is interesting and worth exploring.  In combining their distinct discoveries and voices, they’ll create a complex portrait of a multifaceted city.  Themes addressed may include identity, diversity, perseverance, and creativity, but content of final project(s) will ultimately be determined by the fellows.  Their work will be shared on the program website and through a virtual exhibition.  Limited to 10 student fellows.
