BALTIMORE PHOTO WALK
Ages 16-29
Spring 2022, JHU-MICA Film Centre

In this workshop, student fellows will develop their photography practice as they explore the city on walking expeditions.  Navigating literally as walkers and figuratively as artists, they’ll tune in to the world around them and engage all senses in careful noticing.  They’ll work entirely outdoors, gleaning inspiration both from nature and from built urban environments, embracing the unexpected nature of street photography.  Final projects will blend digital photography, black and white film, found objects, and short written observations for a series that maps a visual accounting of their journeys on foot.  The constraints of specific walks (duration, weather, location, etc.) will be exploited as creative inspiration for their work.  Fellows should plan to wear comfortable walking shoes as they can expect to be active in every meeting.  Portfolios will be shared through a public exhibition and on the program website.  Limited to 9 student fellows.

Chrissy Fitchett, a graduate of MICA, is a practicing photographer and Associate Director for Baltimore Youth Film Arts.  Her work examines family structure, generational knowledge, and issues of political and social marginalization, such as forced migration and gender inequity.

Priyanka Kotha is an engineering management graduate student from India who takes comfort in art.  She is obsessed with painting skies and taking pictures, and she enjoys meeting new people.
